Understanding Your Enneagram Wing
If your core Enneagram type is the main dish, your wing is the seasoning that gives it a unique flavor. Understanding your wing adds nuance and depth to your self-knowledge.
What Is a Wing?
Your wing is one of the two types adjacent to your core type on the Enneagram circle. For example, if you're a Type 5, your wing is either Type 4 (5w4) or Type 6 (5w6).
Most people have one dominant wing, though some identify with both adjacent types.
How Wings Work
Your wing doesn't change your core type — it modifies how your type expresses itself. Think of it like this:
- Your core type determines your deepest motivations and fears
- Your wing influences your style, energy, and secondary motivations
